Burton M. Waxman, D.D.S.

Dr. Burton M Waxman is a native of Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Maryland. Dr. Waxman received his undergraduate degree from Clark University, Worcester Massachusetts. After working as a dental lab technician, he entered dental school at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland Dental School from which he graduated in 1978.
Desiring to help people who have traditionally been less accessible to regular dental care, Dr. Waxman opened a general dental practice in Salisbury, PA, a small town in southwestern Pennsylvania. He also maintained a satellite office in Cumberland, Md. Dr. Waxman was also the staff dentist at the Thomas B. Finan Center, a state mental health facility in Western Maryland.
Working in an isolated area, it was common to treat patients with acute symptoms of pain and swelling. The nearest dental specialist was over one hour away so Dr. Waxman learned to diagnose and treat these patients within his own practice. This experience motivated him to return to dental school in 1986 to receive postgraduate training in the specialty of endodontics. Dr. Waxman received his certificate in endodontics from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1988. From 1988 until 1995 Dr. Waxman taught at the dental school in the Department of Endodontics as an assistant clinical professor. In 1995 Dr. Waxman passed his board certification to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. He is also a member of the College of Diplomats of the American Board of Endodontics. In 2006 Dr. Waxman was inducted into the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Waxman has also chosen to devote his time to the dental profession. He is a member of the Howard County Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the American Association of Endodontists. He has served as both treasurer and president of the Maryland State Association of Endodontist. He has served the Howard County Dental Association as president of the organization and is currently the Trustee from this component society on the Board of Trustees of the Maryland State Dental Association. He is also a member of a standing committee of the state association.
Dr. Waxman has been practicing as an endodontist for over 20 years in Howard County, Maryland. He has always been innovative and has enthusiastically embraced new technologies in endodontics. In 1995, he was the first endodontist in this area to use an operating microscope. Two years later, he was again the first Howard County endodontist to utilize digital radiography.
Dr. Waxman has been a resident of Howard County since 1989 and currently resides with his family in Clarksville, Maryland.
